I’m Sharon, a British fine artist based in Ascot, creating layered oil paintings inspired by the sea as a place of calm, clarity, and return to self. My work explores freedom, emotional depth, and the quiet strength that comes from moving through life’s challenges and finding your way back to yourself.

Each painting begins intuitively. Before the paint is applied, I often write lyrics, intentions, or fragments of thought directly onto the canvas. These words are then layered over, no longer visible but still present, shaping the energy of the work and holding a quiet narrative beneath the surface.

My path to becoming a full-time artist in midlife has been anything but linear, but that’s exactly what gives the work its depth. Creativity has always been part of my life, from early drawing and painting to working as a photographer’s assistant, where I learned to hand-manipulate colour prints, and later training as a special effects makeup artist working on editorial and album cover shoots.

After becoming a mother, art remained an intrinsic part of who I am, even when it wasn’t at the forefront. Returning to it later in life, I trained in oil painting, studying traditional techniques inspired by the old masters, and gradually rebuilt a creative practice that is now at the heart of my life.

In recent years, my work has been exhibited across the UK and internationally, including at the Mangusta Yacht Launch in London, and I was awarded Highly Commended at the Windsor Castle En Plein Air event. My paintings are held in private collections and represented by selected galleries.

Alongside my studio practice, I’ve been featured in publications including Artist & Illustrator, Canvas Rebel, and Bold Journey, and was named one of Premier Magazine UK’s Women to Watch. I also co-present Just Women on Brooklands Radio, where I speak about art, reinvention, and creative life after 50.

I feel incredibly grateful to now paint full-time. My hope is that each piece offers a sense of calm, connection, and space, something to return to, again and again.
